The 3D fitting room opened at the cité internationale de la dentelle et de la mode (international lace and fashion park) in Calais

cabine d'essayage pour le musée de la dentelle de calais

On 16 September this year, the 3D fitting room was opened in the hall of the Calais lace and fashion museum. A truly innovative project both in terms of science and for visitors to the Cité, it helps people get to know the Cité’s collections in an interactive way.

Creating a virtual double

The principle: visitors enter the fitting room, just like changing rooms in a store. In one second, their morphology is scanned and saved in order to create a 3D avatar with the same measurements. Using a touch screen stand, they can then personalise it (skin colour, hair, etc.). The visitors become proper stylists and can customise clothes themselves using lace samples applicable to t-shirts, cropped trousers, trousers and dresses or by virtually trying on the dresses in the collection. Once the avatar has been saved, visitors can find it again on the internet and visit the virtual rooms in the museum, and use their avatar to participate in the online community area.

A truly innovative project

A joint project between Idées-3Com and the company TELMAT Industrie, this is the starting point for research recognised by Europe and initiated by the Cité with local universities (ULCO, LISIC), to allow the development of virtual collections. This project is unique in France!
